(BBBBQ) kicks-off Canada’s first 2015 BBQ competition in Chilliwack, British Columbia on March 22 from 11am to 5pm at the Farm Store located on 4540 Simmons Road. In its first year, Barn Burner BBQ is a free, one-day event featuring 21 teams from across the Pacific Northwest, Alberta and Saskatchewan set to compete for the championship. Meat lovers of all ages are invited to join the festivities including a live band performance, climbing wall, face-painting and free samples of delicious BBQ meat.

The first annual Barn Burner Barbecue Competition arrives in Chilliwack, British Columbia on March 22 from 11 am – 5 pm at the Farm Store located on 4540 Simmons Road. This free, one-day event is the first fully-sanctioned BBQ competition in Canada this year.
Presented by Johnson’s Pork and Fraser Valley Speciality Poultry, Barn Burner BBQ aims to be the hottest BBQ competition in Chilliwack, supporting eating local and community building (the event’s local sponsors here). More than 21 teams from across the Pacific Northwest, Alberta and Saskatchewan will travel to Chilliwack and compete for the ultimate BBQ championship.
This fully-sanctioned Kansas City BBQ Society (KCBS) BBQ competition will attract BBQ fans of all ages from throughout the Fraser Valley. Attendees will taste delicious BBQ samples, groove to the live band performance, visit local vendors, enjoy free climbing wall and face painting, all while being a part of a smoking fun event. At the end of the day, proceeds from the event will support Ruth & Naomi’s Mission, a non-profit organization in Chilliwack that feeds the hungry and provides shelter for the homeless.
With visiting KCBS head judges Kelly and Kathleen McIntosh leading a team of certified local BBQ judges, the winning team will share a cash prize of $5,000 after achieving the highest total points in all four competition categories: Beef Brisket, Pulled Pork, Chicken, and Ribs.
A food affair is never complete without a fun, “Iron Chef” style competition for BBQ Teams to further show-off their creativity and talent. In this bonus round of BBQ “Black Box” cook-off, each team will receive four mystery ingredients to be incorporated into a single dish and submitted only to a distinguished panel of judges including Don Lehn (editor, My Chilliwack News), Jonathan Horst (producer, Shaw TV Channel 4), Marc Smith (chief adventurer, 30 Day Adventures), Mijune Pak (blogger, Follow Me Foodie & Passion for Pork), Paul Henderson (reporter, Chilliwack Times) and Samantha Lenz (contributor, Vancity Buzz). Judges will award points based on originality, taste and presentation. It is sure to be a very tasty yet fierce additional battle.
